Remembrance: Tributes by schools delayed by holiday

The government announced a public holiday for the first anniversary of the massacre

Events organised by schools to pay tribute to the children and faculty of Army Public School (APS), Peshawar on Wednesday had to be postponed following a late announcement of a public holiday by the government on Tuesday.


The government announced a public holiday for the first anniversary of the massacre. Many public and private institutions then postponed seminars, walks and other events until Thursday (today).

The Punjab University had planned a seminar at its Faisal Auditorium. The seminar will now be held on Thursday (today) at the same venue. VC Mujahid Kamran will lead a rally organised by the PU Academic Staff Association from Faisal Auditorium to the VC’s Office.

A ceremony and a walk organised at the UET went ahead. Finance Minister Ayesha Ghaus Pasha was the chief guest. Pasha said the tragic memories of December 16 should revitalise efforts for peace and harmony in the country.

Vice Chancellor Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid, in his welcome address, thanked the chief guest and highlighted the role of the Finance Department in quality education. In their message on the first anniversary of attack on APS Peshawar, PU Academic Staff Association (ASA) president Dr Hassan Mobeen Alam and Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain paid tribute to the children and teachers of the APS.

The Garrison Public School organised a seminar to pay tribute to the martyrs of the APS attack.
