Sindh High Court granted on Tuesday protective bail to an officer of Sindh local government department to prevent his arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The town municipal officer of Naro taluka, Khairpur district, Gohar Hussain Phulpoto, filed the petition requesting the court to grant him interim bail. The petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Qurban Malano, informed the court that he was earlier booked by Sindh anti-corruption establishment Mirpurkhas circle in December 2013 during his stint as town municipal office accountant between June and December 2013. He was charged with embezzling public funds, he added. According to him, the officer obtained bail in that investigation from the court while the inquiry continued. This year, on December 4, he received a notice from the NAB and his house and office were raided by NAB team. The petitioner was granted bail against a surety of Rs500,000.
