Unpaid salaries: KMC employees stage protest
KMC’s financial adviser, Afaq Saeed, did not respond to repeated calls
KARACHI:
Employees of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) education department protested on Tuesday over the non-payment of their salaries for the past five months. KMC’s education director Bilal Manzar once again held the finance department responsible for the non-payment of salaries. He said that due to a scrutiny process to identify ghost employees in the department, the salaries had been delayed. Manzar stated that he has moved a summary to the KMC administrator to release ad hoc payments to the education department. “The way the contract employees are given salaries,” he explained, adding that he was trying his best to resolve the issue but the process of scrutiny has been very slow on the part of KMC’s finance department. “In one meeting they hardly clear five employees,” he said. KMC’s financial adviser, Afaq Saeed, did not respond to repeated calls.
