Justice is served: Convict sentenced to five years imprisonment

KARACHI:


An anti-terrorism court sentenced on Tuesday a man to five years imprisonment after convicting him of extorting a businessman.


The convict, Muhammad Islam, was found guilty of demanding protection money from trader Iqbal Bari and sending him death threats and bullets in an envelope in March, last year. The ATC-X judge, Abdullah Afzal Khan, also imposed a fine of Rs20,000 on the convict. If Islam fails to pay the fine, he will remain an additional six months in prison. The case was registered under Sections 385 (putting a person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt), and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code, read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act on the complaint of petitioner.
