Police issue sketch of MPs’ suspected shooter

Sindh govt has announced a reward of Rs10m for information leading to the suspects’ arrests

KARACHI: Police have issued a sketch of the suspected shooter who killed two military police personnel in the city two weeks ago, announcing a reward of Rs10 million for information leading to his arrest.

The pamphlet issued by the South zone police carries two pictures: a pencil sketch and a CCTV screen grab. In the sketch, the moustached suspect appears to be in his 30s. It was made with the help of an eyewitness, according to investigators.

“The other picture is the best of what we [police] could retrieve from the CCTV cameras installed near the crime scene,” explained South district’s DIG Dr Jamil Ahmed, while speaking to The Express Tribune.

The CCTV picture shows two men riding a motorcycle. One is wearing a helmet while the other a sports cap, while his face is hardly visible.

Military police personnel, Lance Naik Rashid and Constable Arshad, were killed while sitting in their official jeep near Gul Plaza on MA Jinnah Road on December 1. They were both shot in the head. According to reports, the gunmen fired shots at the military men from the back of their vehicle.

The case is registered under Section 302, 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act at the Preedy police station.

Any person who gives information leading to the arrest of the suspects will be awarded Rs10 million from the Sindh government, the police announced, adding that the name of the informant will be kept secret.
