Protest: PIA office locked by employees

Scores of PIA employees gathered in front of the office and demanded that the government withdraw its decision

FAISALABAD:

Pakistan International Airlines employees locked a PIA office on Tuesday and protested against the presidential ordinance allowing for the privatisation of the airlines. Scores of PIA employees gathered in front of the office and demanded that the government withdraw its decision to privatise the PIA. PIA Employees Air League president Gohar Mukhi said the PIA was profit-oriented. “Privatising profit-oriented enterprises does not make sense,” Mukhi said. “If the government worked to improve the airline, it could contribute massively to the national exchequer.” He said PIA employees had put in years of sweat and blood to build a solid reputation for the airline. He said privatising PIA would not bode well for the government.
