PESHAWAR:

Passengers, 140 in total, manhandled staff members of Shaheen Air and broke mirrors in the waiting lounge after the aircraft did not take off on the scheduled time from Bacha Khan International Airport (BKIA) on Monday.

Shaheen Air flight NL-191 was scheduled to arrive at BKIA in the morning from Karachi and flight NL-192 was to depart at 10:30 for Karachi. “The flight from Karachi was delayed and we were told it was because of some technical issues which we were not informed about,” said a senior official of the airline. “The passengers had been waiting since morning; they were being given assurances, but went out of control.”

He added that the staff members were manhandled. “Now the flight from Karachi cannot arrive [at BKIA] due to security concerns since night operation has been suspended at the facility,” said the official. “The passengers will either be given lodging at a hotel or be driven to Islamabad for flight availability.”

Others said delays in flight was a routine. “Four flights have delayed so far, including one each for Sharjah, Dubai and Jeddah,” said a Civil Aviation Authority officer.
