BAHAWALPUR: A woman and her two children were attacked with acid in Rahim Yar Khan on Sunday allegedly by her husband.

They were taken to Shaikh Zayed Hospital in critical condition. Doctors treating them said the woman and one of her children might lose their eyesight.

Police said 22-year-old Samreen Bibi, a resident of Baba Ghareeb Shah, Rahim Yar Khan, had filed a complaint with Saddar police. She said that she had been married to Muhammad Shahid for nine years and they had two children.

She said that he had been unemployed for nearly four years and money was tight. “We used to have frequent arguments because of money and I left his house a few days ago and returned to my parents.”

Shahid came to visit them on Sunday morning but got into an argument with Samreen Bibi and threw acid at her and their children – four-year-old Kamran and seven-year-old Zeeshan.

The three were badly burnt. They were taken to Shaikh Zayed Hospital for treatment.

Doctors treating the mother and children told reporters that she and Kamran could lose their eyes.

“We are trying our best to save their eyesight but the prospects are bleak.”

Saddar police said they had registered a case against Shahid on Samreen Bibi’s complaint.

They said they were looking for Shahid and would catch him soon.
