Business grads: IoBM gives Karachi 933 business graduates

Saturday marked the institute's 18th convocation

KARACHI: Ready to tackle every fear in this country, bright and young business graduates are all set to step into the professional world to set new records.

At the 18th convocation of the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) on Saturday, 933 young men and women were awarded degrees. Among them, 11 were gold medallists, of which, nine were women. Eighteen graduates received certificates of merits in business management and its allied disciplines.

Attired in blue and beige ajrak-themed clothes, the graduating students walked up to the stage one by one to get their degrees and honours from IoBM chancellor Najmuddiin A Shaikh, president Shahjehan Karim, chief guest and former Senate chairperson Muhammad Mian Soomro and the chief executive of Pakistan Cables, Kamal A Chinoy.

"Aim for the stars but keep your feet on the ground," said Chinoy to the students. Giving his keynote address, he congratulated the students who strived for four years for excellence with enthusiasm. Moreover, he asked them to be strong in life and pledge to make the future generation more commendable. "Make your own business plan for the life ahead," he advised. "Never underestimate any situation, just work hard and get luckier."

Karim seemed very proud while addressing the audience. "I cannot stop witnessing the spark in the eyes of proud parents as their children will now step into the real world," he said. Soomro advised students to be ambitious but not greedy. "Your parents and teachers have made you capable of what you are today and you cannot repay them," he said. "The more successful you become, the more tolerant you have to be." Valedictorian Aasfia Aziz also spoke on the occasion. "These four years were a rollercoaster ride, full of assignments, exams and colourful events at the campus," she said.

Gold medallists also seemed proud of their achievements. While talking to The Express Tribune, Anum Alnoor, a gold medallist in business administration, said that all you need to do to achieve such distinction is consistency combined with hard work.

Another student, Hani Ghulam Abbas, said, "Finally, four years of hard work paid off. You can get knowledge in books but being attentive in class is a bonus." The chancellor of IoBM, Shaikh, also gave his good wishes to the students and called them an asset for the world. "Your country looks at you as a trusted asset, a ray of hope and trendsetters for a brighter Pakistan."
