Inclement weather: Four injured in roof collapse incident in Jamrud

At least four people were injured in a roof collapse incident in Ghundai area of Jamrud tehsil, Khyber Agency on Friday.

Officials of the political administration told The Express Tribune the roof of the house of Inayatullah caved in following heavy rain.

“As a result, his wife and three children were injured,” he said. “The children have been identified as Kamran, Iqra and Saad.”

According to the official, the injured were rushed to the hospital and are in stable condition.

In a separate incident, the house of Jamaat-e-Islami member Haji Muhammad Ameen also collapsed due to heavy rain in Ghareza, Jamrud on Thursday night. “Although there were no casualties, household valuables were damaged,” he added.

A cold wave has gripped Swat following heavy rain and snowfall in the district over the past two days.

Kalam has received two feet of snow while Maidam and Malam Jabba were covered in four-inches and a foot of snow. Roads leading to Malam Jabba and Mahodand Lake have also been blocked. Locals have started buying gas cylinders and acquiring firewood to keep warm.

Meanwhile, in Chitral, heavy showers and snowfall continued on Thursday and Friday. Several localities, including Lowari Top, were blanketed in snow and roads remained blocked.

Owing to snowfall on Lowari Top, power supply was disrupted in various parts of Chitral for eight hours.

However, snow and rainfall in Shangla and Dir have stopped after two days.
