Competitive grant: Camel study approved

BAHAWALPUR: The Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB) has approved a research grant of Rs48.652 million under its Competitive Grants System (CGS) for a camel research project led by Dr Zahid Kamran, an assistant professor of animal nutrition at the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. This project will study milk production and reproductive efficiency of Cholistani camels. It will involve isolation and encapsulation of lactoferrin and insulin from camel milk which will be evaluated for their efficacy against hepatitis and diabetes in humans. University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore and Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab are collaborating institutions for this project. The project will be completed in four years years.
