Islamophobia: Nisar calls for efforts against intolerance
welcomed Pakistan and India’s decision to resume the stalled dialogue process between the two neighbours

ISLAMABAD:
The country’s top security czar on Thursday pushed for making collective efforts to combat the rising wave of intolerance, extremism and, especially, Islamophobia. “Extremism is not restricted to a specific region or territory; it is a threat to the entire world,” Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar was quoted as saying in a communiqué issued after his meeting with a United States delegation, headed by Deputy Secretary of State Antony ‘Tony’ Blinken, at the Punjab House. “World leaders need to exercise restraint while making public statements, as well as avoid statements that could potentially hurt the sentiments of a religious community.” Blinken, meanwhile, appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for regional peace and development. He said the success of the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process was a clear manifestation of the country’s commitment to promoting peace, security and development. He also welcomed Pakistan and India’s decision to resume the stalled dialogue process between the two neighbours.
