Money for district: Council members protest against Mardan budget

A development budget of nearly Rs580 million was presented on Monday and passed on Thursday

MARDAN:

District council members of PTI protested against the development budget announced for Mardan as they said it was passed in the absence of all the required members. “The budget also lacked welfare schemes for the public,” said Malik Shaukat during the protest outside the district nazim’s office on Thursday. Shaukat is the district council opposition leader.

A development budget of nearly Rs580 million was presented on Monday and passed on Thursday. Out of 112 members, only 68 were present and out of them 58 approved the budget. On the occasion, Mardan district nazim Himayatullah Mayar said development schemes will be designed and issues of the public will be resolved.

However, agitated members of PTI who did not approve of the budget blocked traffic leading to Mardan-Nowshera Road. Vehicles were stranded for half an hour before City DSP Shamrez Khan reached the spot and asked the protesters to clear the roads for traffic.
