A judicial magistrate sent on Thursday three suspects, accused of killing former Punjab law minister Raja Basharat's nephew in Rawalpindi a few days ago, into police custody on a two-day transit remand.
The suspects, Adil, Omar and Asad, were arrested on Wednesday by the Nazimabad police during snap checking. According to the police, at least five suspects, riding motorcycles, were intercepted to stop but they tried to escape.
The police chased them and got hold of Adil and Omar, while the rest managed to escape. Later, another suspect, Asad, was also arrested. The suspects have been accused of killing, Raja Shoaib Iqbal, the lawmaker's nephew, during a clash during the third phase of local bodies' elections on December 5.
Iqbal, who recently returned from England, was assisting his cousin, Raja Moin Sultan, running as an independent candidate for the chairmanship of Rawalpindi's UC-86, in the polls.
The suspects, in a bid to get away with the murder, left for Karachi where they were arrested after four days. The suspects will be interrogated by the Rawalpindi police, since the case is registered there. The Central district's judicial magistrate sent them on two-day transit remand during which they will formally be handed over.
