In a powerful message shared on Facebook, a young British veteran who lost his leg while serving in the British army expressed frustration about people expecting him to be racist because of his experience.

Chris Herbert, was only 19 when he lost his leg in a roadside bomb blast while serving in Iraq in 2007. His right limb was shattered and his best friend was killed when their vehicle was hit by the bomb in Basra.

In his Facebook post, which has been shared 61,000 times, Herbert said someone had tried to recruit him for "anti Muslim propaganda" and called on people to stop blaming all those belonging to particular faith for the actions of a minority.

Over 35,000 Britons petition to ban Trump from UK after 'Muslim ban' comments

He urged people to "get a grip" of  their lives, hug their family members and "get back to work".

"I know who I dislike, and I know who I don't. I know who I appreciate, and I know who I don't," the young veteran said. "If you want to hate an entire race of men and women for the actions of a few, feel free, but don't push your views on me, thinking I am an easy target because one douchebag decided it was my day to die."

He said while it was a Muslim who blew him us and he lost his leg, it were Muslims who treated him and helped him recover, listing down the number of people who helped him after he was injured, from Muslim medics to the surgeon.

Donald Trump calls for barring Muslims from entering US

Herbert also listed down bad experiences he's had with white British people who mocked him for being a cripple and were unhelpful. However, he said he doesn’t hate them either.

Herbert’s message comes as politicians and people from across the globe express their outrage at the remarks made by US presidential contender Donald Trump, who suggested Muslims should be barred from entering America.

Muhammad Aurangzeb. | 8 years ago | Reply The response is heart warming & I am happy to note that there still good people living in this world & perhaps this is the reason that our beautiful Planet Earth is still surviving. I earnestly hope that everyone starts to think like this young British veteran. This has to be done because this is the only way for the Humanity to survive. No religion in the world preaches violence & the action of a few misguided people should not be considered the action of the religion they belong to. Let us give a chance to Humanity to survive & thus save the whole Human race. The good people in every country must rise up & tell their Governments to stop supporting & funding Terrorist Groups & I am sure these Groups will die their own death, Everyone must be given the right to follow the religion of his/her choice without any hindrance or compulsion. Let their be peace in the world. Give it a chance please.
S.R.H. Hashmi | 8 years ago | Reply For a young boy to have such mature, kind and considerate thoughts is a virtue which deserves to be appreciated unreservedly. I criticize United States government heavily for invading and destroying Iraq on fabricated charges and doing much the same to Libya, and now insisting on the removal of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad despite seeing what the removal of strongmen did to Iraq and Syria. And in Syria, some Muslim states are also playing a dirty game whose role I criticize. I also criticize United States for extending illegitimate support to Israel. Yet this was a young American girl Racehl Corrie who stood in front of a Palestinians’ home, in clear view of the bulldozer operator, hoping to prevent its demolition, but the Israeli bulldozer operator went ahead and demolished the house, killing her in the process. At the same, there are voices for peace even in Israel, and one of them is Uri Avnery, a former member of Israeli parliament, who regular writes condemning Israeli atrocities on Palestinians. Recently, I read that in Australia, Muslims are three times more likely to face assaults. However, I also remember reading in the papers about a Muslim girl wearing Hijab subjected to racial remarks and shouting while traveling in a city train in Australia, and on that occasion, a white Australian girl came to her rescue and stood by her, silencing the brutes who were harassing the Muslim girl. And the Australian girl stayed with the Muslim girl until the time she got off safely at her destination . The White Australian girl did not even mind missing her own destination and having to suffer the inconvenience of making a return journey to her destination. So, you see, there are good and bad people everywhere, and we should always keep that in mind. Karachi
