SUKKUR:

National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Sukkur, director-general Altaf Bawany has confirmed the involvement of former and current MNAs and MPAs belonging to upper Sindh in corruption, but declined to disclose their names or numbers.

Speaking to the media at his office on Tuesday, he said that they have concrete evidence against some while investigations are underway to get proof against the others. These MNAs and MPAs belong to Sukkur, Larkana and Shaheed Benazeerabad, he told the media.

He made it clear that the NAB ordinance could not be overlapped by the 18th constitutional amendment. Dispelling the perception about slowing down of NAB action, he said, we can get the records from Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) or the anti-corruption establishment, if needed.

“For us, every person, who is involved in theft, is a thief, no matter how big or small his crime is,” he said. Ruling out criticism over plea bargain, he said that it is in accordance with the Islamic Deyat Law. After entering into plea bargain, the person declares himself a culprit, who also becomes ineligible for any government office for 10 years, he said. Speaking about the performance of his office, Bawany said that so far they have recovered Rs13 million from seven officials after plea bargain and the amount has been deposited with the national exchequer.

“NAB is investigating complaints against taluka municipal administrations, food department, public health engineering, irrigation department and [North Sindh Urban Services Corporation] NSUSC,” he said, adding that if people have complaints against government departments, they can contact them for investigation.
