KARACHI:
In the aftermath of party’s poor performance in Karachi local government elections, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Karachi president Ali Zaidi tendered on Monday his resignation to chairman Imran Khan.

The resignation was offered during a meeting of the party’s central advisory committee in Islamabad on Monday," PTI Karachi vice president Arsalan Taj Ghumman told The Express Tribune.

Imran has not yet accepted the resignation, he added.

Party performance ‘disappoints’ Imran

PTI chairman is said to be disappointed over his party’s poor performance in the third phase of LG polls, which concluded on Saturday.

“Imran Khan is disappointed and concerned about the party’s performance,” a PTI official aware of discussions in the informal meeting of PTI leaders at Bani Gala told The Express Tribune.

Imran is reported to have asked party’s key organisers to present their reports on LG polls, added the official.

According to unofficial results, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) swept the third phase of local government elections in Punjab, including Rawalpindi. The ruling party had already swept the previous two rounds in addition to gaining a strong position in the Islamabad Capital Territory.

PTI Karachi leaders to account for poor performance in LG polls

In Karachi, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) is leading the hotly contested elections in the metropolis ahead of rivals Pakistan Peoples Party.

To boost its chances, Imran’s party had allied itself with the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) in the city, but fell well short. Such was the failure of PTI and JI in Karachi that their respective city chiefs, Zaidi of PTI and Hafiz Naeemur Rehman of JI, lost their respective elections.
