Interior minister terms shooting an act to malign Islam; vows to resolve Imran Farooq murder case at all costs

Referring to the recent shooting in California, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar has said the act of an individual did not represent a country or religion.
“Some people are maligning Islam with their acts of terrorism, every Pakistani condemns such acts,” he said while addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Sunday.
The interior minister said Pakistan condemned the incident in strongest terms, and also offered full cooperation to the US in pursuing the investigation.
"Whatever these terrorists are doing has nothing to do with Islam or Muslims," added Nisar.
Pakistani-origin couple Tashfeen Malik and Syed Rizwan Farook is accused of storming a community centre in San Bernardino, California, on Wednesday and opening fire in America’s worst mass shooting in three years.

Meanwhile, speaking about Dr Imran Farooq murder case, the interior minister said it will be taken to its logical end, adding a new joint investigation team will be constituted.
“After the registration of an FIR, the JIT will now determine the fate of the case,” he said.
Pakistan will continue to cooperate with the UK and exchange information in the case as each of the countries has important evidence, including banking transaction details and visa, added Nisar.

The interior minister also lashed out at those criticising the government of Pakistan for taking up the case.
“Government has nothing to do with the case; it is only a complainant so let us not blame it for the registration of an FIR.”
Regarding the return of the Greece aircraft, Nisar said it violated the basic agreement.
“We have to defend the rights of our nationals residing in other countries and they cannot be dispatched back to the country like cattle,” he insisted.
