QUETTA: There has been a surge in the number of youth enlisting in the army from Balochistan, Governor Mohammad Khan Achackzai said on Saturday.

“It is heartening to note that from a negligible number in the past, more and more young men and women are joining the army these days,” he said addressing the passing out parade of recruits at the EME Centre Quetta.

“This is joyous day for Balochistan and the military and a moment of pride for me as I stand among the soldiers of Pak Army,” he said. The governor’s remarks, though emotional, bore relevance to the fact that until recent past the province had been racked with secessionist insurgency and incessant attacks on security forces and state installation.

Pakistan military ranked 11th strongest in world

Commander Southern Command Lt-Gen Amir Riaz, members of Balochistan Assembly, officers of armed forces and the civil bureaucracy were present on the occasion.

The governor said that Pakistan was passing through very difficult times. “Foreign elements are trying to destabilize peace in Balochistan, Fata and Karachi by misleading the people and trying to use them againstb their own country,” he said. Achackzai expressed hope that the young soldiers will put in their best efforts to defend the country.

He praised the army for improving the economic conditions in Balochistan and added that Pakistan Army is a national institution where Pakistanis of every cast, colour, origin, language and religion are included.
