Pakistan military has been ranked as the 11th strongest military in the world, as per a Credit Suisse report on globalisation.

Ranked seven spots after India’s military, the report gives Pakistan a final military strength score of 0.41. Further, the report reveals that Pakistan’s active personnel number stands at 710,000 and has it more weaponry than Germany, Australia, and Canada.

The report ranks the strength of 20 countries according to weaponry, including tanks, aircraft, helicopters and submarines, each country represents.

Read: ‘Pakistan’s armed forces far better today than ’65, ’71’

The US is listed as number one followed by Russia, China, Japan and India in the top five.

The report said, “Our analysis reveals the military superiority of the United States in conventional war capabilities compared to its close rivals. Its fleet of 13,900 aircraft, 920 attack helicopters, 20 aircraft carriers and 72 submarines far outweighs the military might of any of its close rivals and so does its defense spending worth $610 billion in 2014, which is far more than the combined military expenditures of the next nine countries in our index.”

“In reality, in today’s nuclear era, conventional forces are not the only indicator of military strength. Russia and the United States account for more than 90% of global inventories of nuclear weapons according to data provided by Stockholm International Peace Research Institute’s (SIPRI) Yearbook 2015,” it added.

This doesn’t matter. Our soldiers are stronger in spirit than the Hindu soldiers of India. But we have to admit they gave a very spirited defense even when we gave them surprise attacks in 1965 and 1999. Recommend

Indian ranking is lower mainly because of the lack of attack helicopters. This should improve as India has ordered advanced version of such helicopters from USA. Moreover this ranking does not take into account the nuclear capabilities and that should improve India to third place and Pakistan to 4th place in my view. In not too distant future India and China will be running neck to neck in ranking. Recommend

Pakistan is ranked 11 because of its size.. as pakistan total population is 19 crore as compared to india 1 billion and 20 crore, i think its pretty good in size.. now come to its weaponry, yes its small country 1/7 in size of india.. so definitely small economy, do your maths. so small country and small GDP means small budget.. so understandable.. pretty good i think.. even if we see our economic situation, despite of indians utmost tries by waging proxy wars in pakistan, successfully fighting and bringing it to its logical end. now come to its proficiency FATA, fighting in one of worlds most dangerous zones of world, where 42 countries Americans including NATO’s have failed there,, but Pakistan is not only fighting but winning with its great spirit and dedicated professional training. so by this size of economy and military budget and size of force, i think Pakistan Army is doing its job Triple more than Non- professional indians, i wana say something here … (wo 313 thy ab to hum 6 lac hain). and one thing more in last… Nightmare of our neighbour our nuclear programme, if points of nuclear would have been added than surely pakistan would have been far ahead from this position. which is our ultimate defence and far better and advance than our neighbour… Love Pakistan Army and Salute you Guys Recommend

Pakistan’s nuclear power as suggested by various reports, is far advanced than that of India. So the difference in conventional systems does not make any material difference. I wish and hope there never will be a nuclear exchange but Pakistan is estimated to have been working to acquire nuclear toys at a rate of 5 per each Indian city. Apparently the idea of having such number is that some will definitely get through no matter how robust the anti missile system is. God forgive.Recommend

I am afraid your argument about population size is not relevant here. Russia has 40 million people less than Pakistan, but its army is ranked second. We don’t have to get emotional and accept the reality. Our conventional capabilities are lagging and we need to address these to achieve parity with our hostile neighbhor.

I wouldn’t trust Credit Suisse to rate anything. If we note all the factors I have mentioned along with Pakistan having the best intelligence agency in the world ISI and the world’s best SSG this report should at least put Pakistan slightly above France in 6th position. Proud of Pakistan, this report forgot the country is 200 million strong Muslims we will all fight till last blood for our country, we aren’t a Hindu nation that is scared even with a billion population. Our nuclear assets are the most useful assets ever. India is spending feverishly on weaponry to buddingarm itself against us and knows fully well they cannot take on China. Economically, India is a budding powerhouse.
The Pak-India conflagration of 1971 have boosted their morale against us because, militarily, we are three times smaller and their population exceeds ours by almost six times.
SIPRI report speaks only of numbers and not of the training, prowess, and weaponry possessed. Sometime early this year there was a global report on the 10 best Special Forces. Pakistan was listed in the ten but India was down the list.
However, as long as Pakistan does not get its act together and remains dependent on the WB, IMF, and ADB for CONSTANT BAILOUTS, we will always be dependent on the West for economic relief. SalaamsRecommend

India already has over 100 fully developed cities, and Modi is planning to add 100 smart cities, for which work is already in progress. GDP also comes heavily from rural India, and India is still agri-based economy. So by your logic, Pakistan will require 6000-9000 warheads, while it has about 200-250. By the time you achieve enough bombs, technology would have changed and your bombs will be useless (read KALI). Best luck in your hateful endeavors though.Recommend

The difference between 1 and 11 is pretty much the same (in all practical terms) as the difference between 1 and 185…or between 4 and 11. I should also point out that Pakistan as 11 in the world is about as believable as Mustafa Kamal being declared the best mayor in the world…possibly the same source?

We Pakistanis really need to think beyond the military in the conventional sense.
