Pending charges: Dr Asim seeks bail until inquiry’s completion
The request has been made in a petition jointly filed by Dr Asim and his daughter, Nida Faizan
KARACHI:
The detained former petroleum minister, Dr Asim Hussain, has approached the Sindh High Court (SHC) to seek his release on bail until the completion of inquiry into terror-funding and corruption cases initiated by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). A division bench is expected to take up the bail plea on Monday. The request has been made in a petition jointly filed by Dr Asim and his daughter, Nida Faizan, who cited the NAB chairperson as respondent. In the petition, it was said that the NAB had recently obtained permission from the SHC’s administrative judge for the anti-terrorism courts to interrogate Dr Asim in connection with alleged corruption cases. It was argued that the NAB investigators had not filed a request to the administrative judge, which was not supported by the authorisation letter from the competent authority, which is legally mandatory under section 24-D of the NAB Ordinance 1999.
