Sectarian hotbed: Security tightened as Jhang goes to polls
134 polling stations district-wide declared extremely sensitive

Jhang district has been divided into circles, sectors and sub-sectors to ensure foolproof security on election day (December 5), DPO Humayun Masood Sindhu said on Friday.
Sindhu said Jhang was extremely sensitive as far as security concerns went with 134 polling stations being declared most sensitive and 333 being sensitive. He said the district had been divided into four circles. Sindhu said the circles had been further divided into 14 sectors and 43 sub-sectors.
The DPO said 336 polling stations had been set up in City Circle. Of these, he said, 41 had been declared extremely sensitive. Sindhu said another 101 had been declared sensitive. The DPO said 369 polling stations had been established in Saddar Circle. Of these, he said, 16 had been declared particularly sensitive. Sindhu said another 103 had been declared sensitive. The DPO said of Shorkot Circle’s 208 polling stations, 24 had been declared extremely sensitive and 105 had been declared sensitive. Sindhu said 171 polling stations had been established across Ahmadpur Sial Circle. Of these, he said, 53 had been declared extremely sensitive and 24 had been declared sensitive.
Separately, police, rangers and military personnel conducted a flag march in the district on election eve.
A police spokesperson said the personnel had been dispatched to their posts following the march. He said control rooms established in the DPO and DCO offices had been activated to monitor proceedings across the district. He said polling staff had been provided special contact numbers. The spokesperson said they had been expressly directed to contact the control rooms in case of any untoward situation.
Postings and deployments
The spokesperson said four SPs, 26 DSPs, 34 inspectors, 30SIs, 713 head constables and 3,885 constables would secure the district on election day.
He said 1,511 police razakars would also assist security personnel. The spokesperson said 60 constables had been assigned to polling staff. He said 3,719 jawans would secure sensitive and particularly sensitive polling stations. The spokesperson said 13 policemen would remain at each particularly sensitive polling station and 10 at each sensitive polling station.
The police representative said dozens of Elite Force teams would continuously patrol the length and breadth of the district. He said 2,500 men constables and 150 women constables had been requisitioned from Faisalabad police to perform security-related duties. The spokesperson said military and rangers personnel had also reached the district to assist police.
The spokesperson said all presiding officers had been given security cover. He said armed guard had been provided to them to ensure the smooth transfer of election material including ballot papers, boxes, stamps and ink among other things. The spokesperson said the guards would remain with the presiding officerss till the conclusion of the polls and the submission of results.
