Attacks on polio teams: Medical professionals protest against doctor’s murder

Health workers threatened to boycott the drive if demands were not met

Employees of the health department and doctors in Swabi protested on Friday against targeted killing of a doctor. They said the provincial government was apathetic about providing justice to the deceased and arresting the killers.



Expanded Programme on Immunisation district coordinator Dr Yaqoob was shot dead and his driver injured a few days back when unidentified assailants opened fired on his car in Swabi.


Health department workers and the employees’ coordination council protested in front of District Headquarters Hospital and passed a unanimous resolution demanding that the government arrest the murderers.


They said the district administration should provide foolproof security to health workers associated with polio campaign. Health workers threatened to boycott the drive if demands were not met.
