Development: MoU signed on trainings for leather sector workers

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation for arranging trainings for leather industry stakeholders was signed between the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) and the Pakistan Leather Competitiveness Improvement Programme (PLCIP) consortium.
International consultants will be hired to design skill development courses for industry stakeholders under the MoU. The MoU was signed by TEVTA chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh and PLCIP consortium project director Usman H Malik.
Sheikh said trainings would be held at TEVTA’s leather service centres in Gujranwala and Kasur. He said training material would cover genuine leather cutting, shoe upper stitching, shoemaking, leather goods manufacturing and use of computer-aided design and manufacturing technology.
He said he hoped the venture would help strengthen academia and industry linkages in the leather sector. He said it was part of the authority’s efforts to increase the pool of skilled manpower in the leather industry of Gujranwala and Kasur.
TEVTA Chief Operating Officer Jawad Ahmad Qureshi was also present on the occasion.
