Anwar Maqsood’s Dubsmash ‘thumka’

Veteran writer on his dance moves that created a storm on the social media

KARACHI:
One thing that has remained constant about Anwar Maqsood, apart from his silver mane, has been the unflinching and matter-of-fact persona that he has established for himself.

However, within seconds the veteran humourist shed this image as he participated in a Dubsmash dance performance, shaking a leg to the song Shakar Wandaan Re from the upcoming Ho Mann Jahaan, alongside actor Yasir Hussain.

Celebrities are 'Dubsmashing' Shakar Wandaan and we're loving it!

Talking to The Express Tribune, Maqsood said he never expected the video to go viral and that he made it only upon Yasir’s insistence. “I am no dancer; I haven’t even danced at a party. These kids came up to me requesting me to do this video and I thought why not,” he said.

Maqsood, who is busy prepping for his theatrical production Siachen in Faisalabad, said he has received “countless calls from people who were inquiring about the video.” He maintained he only did it as a goodwill gesture to promote the film.

While audiences mostly associate tongue-in-cheek humour and sophistication with the writer, the image of Maqsood producing a ‘thumka’ or two along the Asrar song is bound to leave a visual imprint on the minds of many of his fans.

His partner-in-crime, Yasir, who is also the dialogue writer for the movie, shared how difficult it was for him to convince the legendary artiste to appear in the video.

Would have never cast Moin Akhtar in my film: Anwar Maqsood

“It took a lot of convincing and I literally had to cajole Anwar sahib to do the video. He has been a great sport about the whole thing,” said Yasir.

The video followed soon after Anwar had clarified that he does not own a Twitter account and that all handles associated with his name are fake.
