First Yemeni woman Nobel Prize laureate in Islamabad

President says Tawakkol Karman, Malala Yousufzai role model for youth

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain said on Wednesday that the Muslim Ummah should unite to achieve peace and prosperity in their countries and work for end of sufferings of the people.

The president stated this while talking to Nobel Peace Laureate Tawakkol Abdel-Salam Karman, who along with a delegation called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Tawakkol Karman is a Yemeni journalist and human rights activist. She is a co-recipient of the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize, becoming the first Yemeni, the first Arab woman, and the second Muslim woman to win a Nobel Prize and the second youngest Nobel Peace Laureate to date.

President Mamnoon said that Karman, one of the youngest Nobel laureates, was a representative of youth and women. “Karman and Malala Yousafzai are role models for youth,” he said.
