Maradona sends roses to outgoing Argentine leader
Former World cup winner sent outgoing President a bouquet to thank the leftist leader for her eight years in office
BUENOS AIRES:
Argentine football legend Diego Maradona sent outgoing President Cristina Kirchner a bouquet of four dozen white roses to thank the leftist leader for her eight years in office, she said Tuesday.
"Thank you for everything!" said a card signed by Maradona in a picture Kirchner posted on Twitter alongside a photo of the enormous bouquet.
"Here are the lovely roses I received yesterday. Thank you for all your affection," Kirchner wrote.
Maradona, considered one of the greatest players of all time, was close to Kirchner as well as her late husband and predecessor Nestor.
'Blatter taught Platini to steal' - Maradona
The 12-year Kirchner husband-and-wife dynasty took a beating in Argentina's elections last month, when right-wing candidate Mauricio Macri pulled off a come-from-behind win over Daniel Scioli, Kirchner's choice to succeed her.
Macri takes office on December 10 and has promised a sweeping overhaul of the Kirchners' protectionist, hands-on economic policies.
