Penalty: Dealer sued for selling used phone

LAHORE: A consumer court on Monday directed the proprietor of a cell-phone shop to pay Rs14,500 in damages to a customer for selling him a used handset claiming that the device was new. Waqar Iqbal submitted that on February 4, he had purchased a cell phone for Rs4,500 from Madina Mobile in Township. He said when he opened the pack at home he found that the handset had already been used. He said the shopkeeper had refused to replace it or return him the money. He had requested the court to direct the shopkeeper to refund the original payment and pay Rs20,000 in damages. The court directed the respondent to pay Rs14,500 to the petitioner.
