A fine skill: Artisans display glasswork, embroidery

Haripur DC assures businesswomen of district administration’s complete support

HARIPUR:
In order to showcase the handicrafts of women artisans and businesswomen, an exhibition was arranged in Haripur by Pakistan Hoslamand Khawateen Network (PHKN), a local NGO.

Haripur Deputy Commissioner Tasleem Khan inaugurated the event while social activists, NGO workers and women entrepreneurs were in attendance.

Products made by women including jute, glasswork, clothes, woollen embroidery and cotton bed sheets were on display at various stalls. Women from different walks of life visited the stalls and some bought or placed orders for the products.

The deputy commissioner, while speaking to the participants, said Haripur district had talented and skilled women and their embroidery work was of the highest standard. He added they could compete and do well in the international market. He lauded the quality of work on display and assured the support of the district administration. He also visited the stalls and appreciated the efforts of the participants.

Speaking on this occasion, PHKN Executive Director Irum Fatima said the event was promoting local handicrafts and linking female artisans to the local and national markets. She admired the efforts of the artisans and entrepreneurs, and thanked the Sarhad Rural Support Programme for helping train women in various skills. Later, the DC gave appreciation awards to the participating women.
