LAHORE: A consumer court on Thursday issued notice to the secretary of the Local Government and Community Development Department for February 8, as a petitioner sought Rs147,790 in damages from the department for not providing him the provisional registration book of a car he bought in an auction.

Petitioner Hafiz Attiqur Rehman Awan submitted that he bought the Toyota Corolla in an auction on November 3 for Rs635,250. He said that instead of the original, he was given a photocopy of the provisional registration book. When he sought the original, he was told that it wasn’t available, even though the auction list issued by the department stated that the books were available and would be delivered to the successful bidders.

He said he then moved the Excise Department to transfer the car to his name, but was told he would require the original book. He then asked the Local Government and Community Development Department to return his money but they ignored him, he said.

He asked the court to order the department to repay the Rs635,250 and an additional Rs147,790 as compensation and damages.
