SHABQADAR:
At least two pro-government tribal elders were killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Mohmand Agency on Saturday.
“The tribal leaders, Malik Hazrat Noor and Muhammad Gul, were driving by on a motorbike when the roadside IED went off. As a result of the blast, both elders were killed on the spot while their two-wheeler was completely destroyed,” a lower Mohmand Agency political administration official confirmed. “No group has claimed responsibility for the attack thus far,” the official said, adding the funeral of the deceased was held in their ancestral village.
“Security forces have nabbed two suspects under the FCR collective responsibility clause after a search operation in the area.”
Meanwhile, the Utman Khel tribe leaders have summoned a jirga on November 30 to decide their future line of action.
Earlier in August, an explosion in Bajaur Agency’s Khar area killed a tribal leader while three others, including a minor, were injured. According to initial reports, the explosion was caused by an IED at the agency headquarters of Bajaur Agency.
