Court orders seizure of Musharraf's property

Published: April 30, 2010

Abottabad District and Sessions Judge ordered former President Pervez Musharraf's property to be seized. (AP)

ABBOTABAD: Abottabad District and Sessions Judge Abdulmateen Khan ordered former President Pervez Musharraf’s property to be seized on Thursday.

The action was taken after Musharraf failed to appear before the court on April 29. He had been summoned in the case of Ishqur Rehman, an intelligence agency employee who went missing in Musharraf’s tenure. Rehman has not been found to date.

The court has also instructed the SP Investigation to appear in court with records relevant to the case on May 6. The court has also warned that if the SP fails to appear, he will be arrested.

All citizens have equal right and no one is above the law. How it is possible that a person go missing for an indefinite period. The Judge is right in passing the orders. Ishqur Rehman and Musharraf have equal rights. Now it is the turn of SP to produce Ishqur Rehman before the court or be prepared to go to jail.Recommend

Once the court gives the order, it’s not open to any authority to defy. While there’s a room for criticism, there’s no room for defiance. Musharraf should have appeared before the court. But no, he’s a former president and a veteran general. Why would he be harmed? Or why shouldn’t Musharraf brag by not appearing before the court as he belongs to country’s powerful elite. Appearance of such people is against the very spirit of Pakistan’s tradition!Recommend

Although the decision of courts should be respected on all platforms but one needs to be careful not to use these institutions for revenge or a politics of confrontation. We need to learn the liberal values of politics.Recommend

Judiciary is a balance wheel of whole system.

Account must be settled according to law.

    No one above the law.

It is duty of those to find missing persons,
who are really responsible for that.Recommend

Who care’s about these kangroo courts. It is just to divert the attention from the real causes facing this regime. Everyday hundred of people go missing, is it the job of the president to find them out?Recommend

How is “Ishqur Rehman” disappearance directly linked to Mr Musharraf? Do they have a single piece of evidence that Musharraf planned or ordered that disappearance? Specific charges have to be proven else no sentence can be passed.

This is just a attempt to get name in papers and get judge elevated to higher position. Kangaroo courts of Pakistan are a disgrace.Recommend
