Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar has said corruption in the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is intolerable.

“Corruption and NADRA are anti-thesis and cannot go together,” the minister said while addressing a press conference at the NADRA Headquarters in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Nisar said he tried eliminating mafias in NADRA and the passport office, and launched a crackdown against the agent mafia.

“I am still not satisfied with the actions taken against corruption prevalent in NADRA,” he added.

The interior minister revealed that not only the registration authority provided foreigners with identity cards, it also recruited aliens.

“Now I want to eradicate corruption in NADRA as rapidly as it was spread in the past,” he vowed.

Nisar informed he would soon launch an SMS service for assisting the applicants during the process of passport and identity cards issuance.

Jalbani Baloch | 8 years ago | Reply NADRA has been assigned sacred mandate of issuing National Identity Cards, which means that anyone, who is issued CNIC is a legal citizen of Pakistan. No doubt, the procedures for issue of CNIC should be simplified to an extent that common citizens of our country should not undergo through unnecessary troubles and hectic, but all fool proof arrangements must be ensured that no fake card is issued any non-Pakistani citizen. In this regard, it would be highly desirable that NADRA staff should be appointed through strict and rigorous procedures. not only limited to their competence and qualification but their moral values, character and conduct should also be assessed, and only those, who fulfill the criteria of being patriot, competent and honest, should be employed in NADRA Offices. Despite all these measures, if anyone who is found involved in corruption and issue of fake ID cards, should tried under the laws governing the traitors. No regrets and sympathies for such people.
Abid Shah Mashwani | 8 years ago | Reply You can't eliminate corruption in any institution until and unless you punish people involved as well as those who hired them. By simply sacking them from job will never eliminate corruption, instead it will increase corruption. Because every employee will say let's make money before I get sacked. So sack them, jail them and punish them through military courts.
