ISLAMABAD: The Special Judge Central (FIA’s special court) sent on Wednesday Iqbal Haider Zaidi, Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) deputy director general, on a nine-day physical remand for his alleged involvement in the Crown Plaza purchase scam. The suspect was produced in court by the FIA. Zaidi was arrested on October 6 after an FIR was registered by the agency over the purchase of the plaza in Blue Area. The officials said Zaidi was allegedly accused of signing purchase documents on the direction of then EOBI chairman Zafar Gondal. A loss of Rs370 million was caused to the federal pension fund due to the lack of transparency in the transaction, according to the FIA.
