A glimpse into the world of Pakistani powerhouses

September 21, 2015
Yours truly.

What sparked your interest in the fashion and beauty industry?

From dolls to my three younger sisters, I never missed a chance to experiment with looks! My interest kept developing over time so about 12 years back, I decided to pursue a career in the beauty industry and went to London for training. Since then, there has been no looking back.

Trends and styles are constantly changing and people want to have the latest look when it comes to hairstyles. How do you manage to keep your clientele satisfied?

That’s the part I love about my work the most: transforming looks and maintaining style. Regular traveling and constant training keeps me up to date with new trends and techniques. A lot of my clients look forward to the new style I plan to create for them.

How would you encourage women to become successful entrepreneurs?

I would have three words to say to them: commitment, dedication and hard work. Stick to these in whatever you love to do and success will follow!

How has the Pakistani beauty industry changed over the past years?

I feel that the industry has become more versatile and creative. There are lots of talented stylists focused on contributing to its growth and I am grateful to be playing my role in this, however I can.

What is the most important thing to keep in mind before styling a client?

The individual’s lifestyle and personality! Consultation is the key as you have to understand what the client expects and guide them as to what will suit them. You must figure out whether they can carry off the look you want to give them or not.

What is the hardest part about working in the beauty industry?

So far, I have really enjoyed being a part of it. My journey from training to freelancing to setting up a small salon and finally converting it into a two-storey flagship salon and spa has been a wonderful experience.

What are some of your favourite hair products/tools?

I love my scissors - the ones I used for my first professional haircut ever! It’s been with me ever since I first began hairdressing. As for other products, I am a big fan of L’Oreal for hair and MAC, NARS and Bobbi Brown for makeup.

Who has inspired you the most throughout your career?

I get inspired by female entrepreneurs who have maintained a great balance between work and home. I love spending time with my husband and two sons but my salon is my third baby.

Any advice to young women aspiring to work in the beauty industry?

It’s a great industry to be a part of so be focused and work hard. As it is said, “When talent and passion collide, it creates a masterpiece.”
