QUETTA: Gunmen kidnapped at least six people, including three engineers, a government contractor and his son, in the Qilla Saifullah district of Balochistan province on Monday, officials said.

Deputy Commissioner Abdul Wahid Kakar confirmed that six people have gone missing from the Kakaran Kurrasan area of Qilla Saifullah but he would not say that they have been kidnapped. “A search for the missing men is under way,” he told The Express Tribune by the phone from the region.

According to a Balochistan Levies official, a contractor of the Balochistan Development Authority drove to a road construction site in Kakaran Kurrasan area along with his son, driver and three engineers. “They were seized by gunmen in their two cars,” another levies official added.

The kidnapped men have been identified as contractor Asmatullah, his son Shah Faisal, driver Ameenullah, and engineers Bacha Khan, Abdul Saboor, and Aslam Musazai. “The gunmen are believed to have shifted the men to Afghanistan,” the official said.
