Road accident: Two family members among seven killed in AJK

Locals rushed to the spot and started rescue operation

Two family members among seven people were killed in a road accident in Patika area of Muzaffarabad district in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.


The accident took place when a passenger van (MD481), on its way to Pahalyan from Patika, fell into a deep ravine while negotiating a sharp curve near Nakyaan, according to police sources.


Locals rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. They pulled out the bodies from the wreckage and shifted them to Patika hospital. A victim identified as Muhammad Rafique and his daughter Rubya Bibi died on the spot. Others who died in the accident were identified as Amjad Mahmood (driver), Muhammad Bashir, Javaid Younas, Tayab Qadir, and Tahir Qayyum.


One of the injured, Khurshida, was shifted to Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Hospital Muzaffarabad, where doctors said she was out of danger.


Locals said that a number of accidents have taken place in recent months due to dilapidated condition of the roads. They demanded that the government rehabilitate the road and take road safety measures.
