Suspected militants: Raid leads to 59 arrests

The operation was carried out in Tarnol and its surrounding areas on Saturday

Rangers, officials of an intelligence agency and the police in a joint operation in the outskirts of the federal capital arrested as many as 59 suspected militants, and allegedly recovered a huge cache of weapons and explosive material from their possession.


The operation was carried out in Tarnol and its surrounding areas on Saturday.

Superintendent of Police (Southern Zone), Rizwan Umar Gondal, said that a huge cache of weapons was recovered from the suspects. He said 190 kg of explosive material and 170 metres of primachord were also recovered.

Gondal said that the suspected militants were taken into custody and were being interrogated.

An Islamabad SSP said that records of the arrested suspects were being sought, and the police was also investigating their mobile phone records.

He said Islamabad Police was making full use of technology to trace criminals.
