The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has launched an extensive campaign to discourage the trend of unlawful cutting and smuggling of forest wood in the region, official sources said.

The AJK Forest Department sources informed that vehicles involved in smuggling and carrying forest wood from AJK would be impounded on the spot by the state authorities. The anti-social elements including officials of the department found involved in the activity would be taken to task and nobody would be left unpunished irrespective of status, the sources indicated as decided by the government.

Besides, mobile squads and check-posts comprising staff of the forest department have already been set up in various parts of the region to discourage the trend.
