QUETTA: A day after the Jiwani airport attack, law enforcement agencies on Monday conducted a number of search operations, arresting nearly two dozen suspected persons from the Gwadar town of the port city and its adjoining areas.

On Sunday, nearly a dozen armed men stormed Jiwani airport, killing two sub-engineers of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and destroying the radar system and other installations of the airport. The attack had been claimed by the outlawed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).

“Following the attack, security forces launched search operations in Jiwani and its adjoining areas and rounded up at least 20 suspected persons in connection with the attack,” police sources said.

The suspected people have been shifted to undisclosed location for questioning.

Sources said that in the wake of Jiwani airport attack security measures have also been beefed up in major airports of the province, including Quetta International Airport and Gwadar Airport.

Jiwani airport has not been functional for the past two decades.
