Mudaraba scandal case: NAB refuses to take cheque worth Rs100 million

IHC bench adjourns case till mid Sept.

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials refused on Tuesday to accept a cheque of Rs100 million in a case pertaining to the bail of a key suspect in the Mudaraba scandal before the Islamabad High Court.

Mufti Ehsan presented the cheque before a division bench comprising Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi and Justice Athar Minallah. The NAB prosecutor, however, refused to receive the cheque saying the suspect should either deposit the amount in a bank or hand it over in cash.

Following the refusal, the bench adjourned the case till the second week of September.

Ehsan had earlier submitted details of how he would submit Rs8 billion in instalments as part of a plea bargain. He has been arrested on charges of corruption and cheating public at large through the Mudaraba business (Islamic mode of investment).

Allotment letters

NAB Rawalpindi has distributed allotment letters among 700 affected people of Manzer-e-Kohsar of Ahbab Housing Society, at Jhandu village.

NAB acting chairman Admiral (retd) Saeed Ahmed Sargana was the chief guest who handed over the allotment letters to the affected people, said a press release issued on Tuesday.

NAB Rawalpindi Director-General Zahir Shah briefed participants about the efforts made by NAB officials for issuance of the allotment letters.

He said the housing society was established in 1988 and received money from the public but failed to approve legal formalities like NOC and development plan from the regulatory authority.

Around 700 members of the society were allotted plots in different categories but were not given possession, he added.

Sargana appreciated the efforts of NAB Rawalpindi and urged people to invest only in government approved housing societies.

He said NAB was committed to eradicate corruption by using all its resources across the board.
