Corruption crackdown: NAB to hold 6 inquiries, 3 investigations

The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was held under the chairmanship of Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, at NAB Headquarters, Islamabad on Friday.


The meeting decided to file a corruption reference against Muhammad Jalal, Ex-Secretary Health, Dr Naseer Ahmad Baloch, Additional Secretary, Dr Abdul Baqi Durrani, Head of Medicine and others. In this case, the accused persons allegedly misused authority causing a loss of Rs10,293,539 to the national exchequer.

The EBM decided to authorise six inquiries into actions resulting in huge monetary losses to the national exchequer.

The first inquiry was authorised against Israr Rauf, Ex-Member, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Nadeem Dar, Member FATE, FBR and Abbas Steel, Karachi.

The second inquiry was authorised against Fareed Mughees Sheikh, Director Colony Group of Companies (Ex-Director of Bank of Punjab).

The third inquiry was authorised against Gohar Ejaz, CEO & others, Ejaz Spinning Mills Ltd & Ejaz Textiles Mills Ltd Lahore (Ex-Director of Bank of Punjab).

The fourth inquiry was authorised against Naeem Akhtar, Director Planning & Development and Dr Muhammad Ali, Treasurer, Federal Urdu University and Naeem Akhtar, Director Planning & Development.

The fifth inquiry was authorised against authorities of NHA & others.

The sixth inquiry was authorised against Directors/Guarantors of M/s Fajar Rice Mills (Pvt) Ltd, (Bank Islami Pakistan Case – Formerly KASB Bank Ltd).

The EBM also decided to authorise three investigations.

The First investigation was authorised against officers of State Bank of Pakistan, namely Farhat Saeed, Ex-Executive Dir (FRM), Muhammad Bilal Ch. Ex-Director Engg, Muhammad Sorahb Abbasi, Ex-Chief Manager, Lahore, Abuzar Shad, Muhammad Nauman Sultan Piracha & others.

The second investigation was authorised against Iftikhar Rahim, Secretary Workers Welfare Fund for misuse of authority and Officers/Officials of WWB and contractor regarding corruption and corrupt practices.

The third investigation was authorised against Prof. Khawaja Alqama, Vice Chancellor, Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Malik Munir Hussain, Registrar, Multan, Munir Ahmed Bhatti, Chairman BZU Lahore Campus and others.

ZAK | 9 years ago | Reply In order to eradicate corruption NAB should carry out fair investigation against corrupt elements. Only removal of corrupt officials can ensure good governance. Especially official in Land Revenue deptt are involved in lot of corruptions. This corruption involved right from a packet of Gold Leaf to large sum of Money. For God sake let these corrupt element brought to justice.
