Accidents claim 400 lives in Balochistan in 2025

Traffic accidents increased across Balochistan in 2025, claiming more than 400 lives and injuring 30,000 people, according to the annual report released by Medical Emergency Response Centres (MERC) 1122.

From January 1 to December 31, 2025, rescue teams responded to over 24,000 traffic accidents on national highways and inter-provincial roads. Nearly 30,000 people sustained injuries, while more than 415 fatalities were recorded.

Thousands of victims were shifted to medical facilities where Rescue 1122 teams provided emergency treatment. N-25 National Highway (Quetta-Karachi), the most accident-prone route, with high rates of injuries and fatalities reported in Mastung, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Pishin, and Quetta.

Why so many incidents?

Rescue officials said the accidents occurred due to driver negligence, speeding, overloading of vehicles and poor road conditions. Along with the N-25 Highway, the N-50 highway has been declared a high-risk route.

In 2024, a total of 23,257 traffic accidents were recorded, resulting in 31,854 injuries and 416 fatalities.  Rescue 1122 also conducted 6,267 outpatient department (OPD) services in 2024.
