This was stated in a handout issued on Friday and was part of a series of recommendations provided by Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan. According to the document, Mehtab was speaking at a high-level meeting regarding the FRC at Governor House. During the moot, Khan reviewed the commission report and finalised a number of proposals in it to streamline the FATA Secretariat.
“Implementation should be effective and results should be visible to the common man,” read the statement.
The governor also lauded FRC’s attempts to restructure the FATA Secretariat.
“Those who are working towards public welfare in Fata are committed to change,” the handout quoted the governor as saying. “This spirit and determination should be strengthened over time.”
A better tomorrow
Two apex bodies have been formed to review security matters to improve military and civil coordination,” stated the handout. “This will also ensure the smooth repatriation of IDPs.”
The handout added Rs300 million had been allocated for the establishment of a university in the tribal belt. “Facilities at current schools are being enhanced,” read the statement. “More schools will be set up in the region. At least Rs500 million will be utilised to provide interest-free microfinance to enable the people of Fata to earn a living.”
This would help the tribespeople as military operations have even affected their businesses.
Mehtab vowed to hold frequent meetings to monitor their progress.
“The next meeting will take place within the following week,” the document added.
