PTI announces return to National Assembly

Shah Mehmood Qureshi made the announcement a day after MQM, JUI-F withdrew its motion seeking to de-seat PTI lawmakers

A day after MQM and JUI-F withdrew their motions for de-seating the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), party leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi announced they would return to the National Assembly on Monday.

Addressing the media after the conclusion of the party’s parliamentary meeting in Islamabad on Friday, Qureshi said, “Imran Khan will return to the National Assembly on Monday,” and added that the “PTI will play an active role as an opposition in the House,” Express News reported.

He stressed on the need for all political stakeholders to keep democratic traditions intact, but warned that any attempt to interfer Imran’s speech in the lower house will be responded with accordingly.

Referring to the party’s sit-ins after the 2013 general elections, he said, “We rightfully staged a protest for the sanctity of votes of the people and decided to bring an end to the protest after the judicial commission issued its verdict.”

Meanwhile, while commenting on MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s statements against the armed forces and Rangers, Qureshi said that the language Altaf used was inappropriate and should have been avoided.

On Thursday, MQM and JUI-F withdrew their motions seeking to de-seat PTI lawmakers for their absence from the lower house for more than 40 days.

Salman Khan Baloch and Naeema Kishwar Khan withdrew the motions on behalf of the MQM and JUI-F respectively.

Earlier, NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq urged MQM chief Altaf Hussain to ask his party to withdraw the motions.

He is an egotistic narcissist who thinks that he is some Messiah who can do whatever he wants to gain whatever he wants. People have sacrificed for this country and what has he done? A glamorous life in Britain and luxuries of a farmhouse in Islamabad. That is not how heroes are born.
