HYDERABAD:

Sindh irrigation minister Nisar Khuhro feels confident that the ongoing flood situation in River Indus will not cause any damage in the province.

Speaking to the media at Kotri barrage in Jamshoro on Saturday, Khuhro said the river embankments on both sides of the Indus as well as the three barrages in the province were strong enough to sustain the flood.

According to him, the highest amount of flood water, which entered from Punjab in Sindh, was recorded at around 725,000 cusecs at Guddu barrage. The Kotri barrage, he added, is expected to get up to 500,000 cusecs in the next few days.

"The water is unlikely to increase beyond this level if there is no heavy rainfall," he said.
