Sialkot lynching: Deceased brothers’ parents threatened

Parents being pressurised to withdraw the case or face 'dire consequences'.

SIALKOT: Parents of the two brothers who were lynched earlier this year have been threatened with dire consequences if they do not withdraw the case.

The parents of the brothers were returning from a hearing at the anti-terrorism court, Gujranwala when they were intercepted by a man named Imran alias Mani and two other people riding motorbikes near Haji Pura police station. These men warned the family members of the deceased brothers of severe consequences if the case was not withdrawn.

The police traced and arrested Imran after the brothers’ uncle, Khwaja Muhammad Tariq, filed a complaint. He was however released at the directives of Minister for Welfare and Population, Firdous Ashiq Awan.

Tariq then brought the matter to the attention of district police officer Sialkot who ordered Imran’s re-arrest but the accused has not been caught yet. A case though has been registered under section 356. The next date of the case’s hearing is January 4, 2011.

SA | 13 years ago | Reply I wonder why our electronic media has gone silent over this issue. For weeks they had showed the brutal videos and now they hardly report about the case proceedings. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe none of the channels have reported that every now and then the defending lawyer does not appear on the date of hearing hence the delay. Also the last hearing did not take place as per the schedule and the next date follows on Jan 4. 4 months have passed and still its proceeding at snail's pace.. I think they ought to turn them to tennis courts!

Can our honourable Chief Justice please take SUO MOTO notice of the delay in providing speedy justice.My sincere condolences once again to the parents and all those in grief...

wasim | 13 years ago | Reply regardless if they were criminals or not. they shudnt have been treated like this. it was disgusting, I remember watching the clips and I couldn't sleep for months. when I try to follow the latest story, I can't come round to watch there clips again. how can a MUSLIM brother treat another brother like this. when I was younger I use to hear people calling pakistan third world country, to be honest being brit born I still use to get offended. and now it doesn't bother me. as is this what we have progressed to, lynching. laws there for a reason, rather than criticising it we need to come forward and make pakistan a better place to live in. same goes to politics when voting think who your voting for. This message was not to offend any muslim brother/sister. I just felt sad because when I saw the clips both guys just seemed like my own 2 brothers.

I understand your frustration with the courts but to correct you, JIT did NOT submit a report to the SC, unlike the Judicial Commission enquiry report, but a statement. There was no proof or forensic evidence to support the statement. You expect this to happen when police is a party!!

tarek | 13 years ago | Reply I think its about time that the media should stop highlighting atrocities done on criminals. The joint investigation team (JIT) has already submitted a report to the Supreme Court proving that the two brothers had killed Bilal and injured three people while attempting robbery. . Two days ago, two woman were abducted and raped in clifton by four men. After 2 days, the four culprits are still roaming free. If, and its a big if, they are caught by police than our courts are corrupt and these four rapists will go free. In 2008,a gang kidnapped and raped 50 women in karachi, all the gang members were caught but they still haven't been convicted by our courts. . lynching and encounters should be introduced in Pakistan as an effective measure to control these criminals. People who kill people over mobile phones, or guys that openly rape women in daylight should be hanged to the post.
