Separate emergency and intensive care units have been set-up for the first time in all three of the city’s public hospitals.


Holy Family Hospital (HFH), Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) and District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital will all receive the upgrades under the supervision of the Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC). RMC Principal Prof Mohammad Umar said the health department had provided Rs50 million for the upgrade, as well as 20 ventilators.


A team of physicians and surgeons from the RMC visited HFH and reviewed the set-up of the facilities. Prof Umar said 12 ventilators were provided to HFH and eight to BBH. He also said a 26-bed ward will be set up at HFH, with 12 beds allocated for medical ICU, six for surgical ICU and eight ICU beds for children.
