Press Release July 28, 2015

KARACHI: Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) held a public awareness seminar on Tuesday to mark World Hepatitis Day. Hepatitis has emerged as a major global health problem and needs urgent prevention and control, said National Institute of Liver and GI Diseases (NILGID) director Dr Rana Qamar Masood. It is very important to screen the blood properly for these viruses and observe proper sterilisation measures during dental and surgical procedures, he added. Diagnosing the disease at early stage and proper treatment reduces the disease by 90 per cent, he stressed. NILGID also organised a hepatitis walk at its Ojha campus and set up camps for free screening of hepatitis.
