Army chief General Raheel Sharif reached South Africa on Monday, kicking off a three-day official visit.


Following his arrival, Gen Raheel visited the headquarters of the South African Army, where he was welcomed with a 21-gun salute. The army chief was also presented with a guard of honour.

Gen Raheel met his South African counterpart Lt-Gen V R Masondo during his trip to the army HQ and discussed matters of mutual interest. Lt-Gen Masondo lauded the professional prowess and sacrifices of Pakistan Army in its successful fight against terrorism and showed keenness in bolstering defence ties with Pakistan.

The army chief later called on Gen Solly Zacharia Shoke, chief of the South African National Defence Forces (SANDF).
